CHANDIGARH: Haryana government has decided to open the movement of inter-state buses from the region. At the same time, the transport department has also written to the governments of Delhi,
Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir to reciprocate to this initiative.
Once Delhi gives the permission,
Haryana Roadways will also start putting Volvo buses on Chandigarh-Delhi-Gurugram route.
Currently buses from Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have started the movement to Haryana and the buses are provided space at inter state bus terminus in all the depots.
If all goes well in the neighboring states, Haryana Roadways is all set to start full fledged interstate bus services in all the states of the region, especially Himachal Pradesh, Uttanachal Pardesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Since inception of unlock procedure, Haryana has been able to go put 1700 buses on the various routes across the state as well as in Rajsthan and UP. Once the situation gets more eased Roadways will put 500 more buses on the routes.
Director general of transport department Virender Dahiya admitted that it would take more time in running buses in the full strength,
"As on now we are waiting for the response from neighboring states. Keeping in view the guidelines of Union government we are hopeful of getting it soon. So far as buses within the state are concerned, we would put buses only after increase in demand,’’ said Dahiya.
As on now school colleges are closed, all head offices in Chandigarh and Panchkula, including mini secretariat and haryana civil secretariat currently declared out of bond for general public. Similar is case with executives travelling in Volvos. We are here to provide service but in accordance to demand, he added.
Haryana has total around 3600 buses in its fleet. 100 buses are kept in reserve and 3,500 buses are operation. Due to the lockdown, there was no service between April to June, After the unlock process began till now 1,700 buses are put on routes.
