Panchkula: After the tree crash tragedy in Chandigarh, the municipal corporation in Panchkula will conduct a survey of all trees in the district and identify old trees which need pruning or replacement.
A letter has been sent to all schools, asking for information on the condition of trees in their schools.
MC commissioner Dharamvir Singh said that directions have been issued to the horticulture wing to identify heritage trees, dead trees or trees killed by termites.
After the survey, a detailed report is to be submitted on how many trees require pruning of damaged parts or replacement, sources said.
Colleges have also been asked to furnish report on trees on their premises, including the condition of the trees for further action.
The horticulture department is inspecting trees in market areas, community centres, hospitals, government offices and religious places including temples and gurudwaras. A Sector 10 resident was injured on July 1 after a tree branch fell on him, injuring his leg.
Trees on roadsides across the city will also be checked. Action will be taken in case any tree is found hanging or bent towards the road, officials said here on Monday.
