The man sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife and mother-in-law in 2008 had jumped parole in 2014. He had come from Haryana's Jhajjar two days back to meet the family and was staying with them. He had been objecting to Anjali meeting and going out with her male friends, police sources said. A heated discussion on the matter broke out between Satbir and Anjali. Satbir locked the mother in the kitchen when she was preparing tea. He allegedly attacked Anjali with a knife he had brought and kept stabbing her till she fell unconscious, police said. Deepak Mallik, Anjali's brother, who was sleeping in another room, came out to save her on hearing her screams. The accused allegedly assaulted him with a knife and then locked him in a room.
The accused tried to flee on a Honda Activa of the victim but failed to start it. He ran away. On hearing noises from the house, neighbours came out and freed the mother and brother. The police were informed. A PCR (police control room) vehicle took Anjali to Government Multi-specialty Hospital, Sector 16, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Police said Satbir was in jail till 2014 for the murder of his wife and mother-in-law. After getting parole, the accused did not return to jail and was later declared a proclaimed offender by a court. He was since then absconding. The accused had reached the victim's house on the night of August 17.
Police registered a murder case and started a probe.
