Malwinder Singh elected Golf Club president

CHANDIGARH: Malwinder Singh was declared elected as the president of Chandigarh Golf Club after counting of votes of the elections held on December 15 was completed on Monday evening.

CHANDIGARH: Malwinder Singh was declared elected as the president of Chandigarh Golf Club after counting of votes of the elections held on December 15 was completed on Monday evening.
Malwinder defeated his rival candidate Lt Colonel AP Singh by a slender margin of 15 votes. Of the 1,041 votes cast, Malwinder got 523 votes and AP Singh 508 votes. Ten votes were declared invalid.

The counting of votes started in the morning and Malwinder was declared elected by the afternoon.
Malwinder expressed happiness on being elected to the post and said he would strive hard to improve the facilities of the club as had been promised by him before the election. He also expressed his desire to work together with the newly elected managing committee.
He is expected to face opposition from the managing committee, where out of his panel of candidates for the 11-member panel, only four -Birender Singh Gill, Col BS Kahlon, Jaishree Thakur and Inderpal Singh Doabia -were elected. Seven other members elected to the managing committee are from the panel of the other presidential candidate Lt Col AP Singh.Among the main contestants elected from the other group were PP Singh who came second, SPS Matharoo, Sukhjeet Singh, KS Brar, Capt GS Ghuman, HC Sethi and Lt Col JS Panag.
