Chandigarh: The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) has clarified that Aadhaar will not be mandatory for registration or biometric verification of candidates appearing for the Assistant District Attorney (ADA) examination.
An affidavit in this regard was filed before the Punjab and Haryana high court by HPSC secretary Mukesh Kumar Ahuja in response to a petition filed on the issue.
The petitioner in this case, Meena Kumari, applied for the ADA's post as advertised by the HPSC. She sought directions for quashing the impugned advertisement No.18/2025 dated Aug 8, and the consequent recruitment process for selection to the post of ADA, insofar as it mandates the provision of Aadhaar number for registration and biometric verification.
Responding to the petition, the secretary submitted that as far as the issue of biometric attendance is concerned, the clause in the advertisement mentioning
Aadhar is simply an enabling provision. "The biometric fingerprints of all the candidates are taken at the exam centre. In case of any doubt, the commission can verify the credentials of the candidate with the Aadhar database. However, it does not mean that candidates who have applied by using their mobile number would not be allowed to take the exam or their attendance would not be marked. Thus, the entire writ petition is based on false notions and erroneous assumptions of the petitioner and hence it is liable to be dismissed with heavy costs," the secretary clarified.
After hearing the reply from the HPSC secretary, Justice Sandeep Moudgil of the HC disposed of the matter.
