SANGHOYA, Karnal: Majority of Sikh farmers in Haryana on Saturday welcomed the judgement of the Supreme Court giving directions to the Central Government to create machinery for speedy construction of SYL Canal in Punjab.
A resolution passed at a conference of Haryana State Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress in Village Sanghoya not only expressed happiness over the Judgement but also congratulated Mrs.
Sonia Gandhi for installing pro-farmer Government at the Centre.
The conference blamed former Punjab Chief Minister and SAD chief Parkash Singh Badal of creating impediments in speedy construction of SYL Canal in league with Late Devi Lal and now Haryana Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala. Addressing the conference Tejinder Singh Mann - president of Khet Mazdoor Congress asked Chautala not to indulge into one up manship and instead use his relations with Parkash Singh Badal dissuading him from creating any ugly situation on the SYL issue.
The meeting noted that late Indira Gandhi had laid the foundation stone of SYL Canal in village Kapoori (Ambala District) when Bhajan Lal and Darbara Singh were Chief Ministers of Haryana and Punjab respectively. The Akalis had also agitated then at some distance away where Mrs Gandhi had laid the foundation stone. Police force was used to disperse the Akalis. Later, the Rajiv-Longowal accord was opposed both by Akalis and Devi Lal.
How come, that neither Devi Lal nor Chautala took any concrete steps for completion of remaining portion of SYL even though their friend Parkash Singh Badal remained in the saddle in Punjab. How come that Chautala is claiming credit for this conference questioned. The conference also urged the Haryana Sikhs to take their decision to safeguard their interest and not be led by emotional slogan mongering of SAD and its leader Parkash Singh Badal.
