Haryana advisory on 'anticipated' outbreak of respiratory illness

Haryana health department issues advisory for respiratory illness outbreak, similar to Sars-Cov 11, following communications from DGHS. Civil surgeons directed to ensure adequate testing kits for Covid. Enhanced surveillance of suspected cases of cough, cold, and chest congestion among children and youngsters. Haryana already grappling with dengue and chikungunya cases. Total of 7,697 dengue cases and 546 chikungunya cases reported in the state.

CHANDIGARH: Alarmed by communications received from the office of director general of health services (DGHS), Government of India, the Haryana health department on Tuesday formally issued an advisory related to anticipated outbreak of respiratory illness on the lines of Sars-Cov 11 in the state.
Notably, on Friday, while attributing the outbreak of disease in China, the Government of India had formally communicated to all the states to be prepared and to revise Covid-like guidelines to deal with situation, in case outbreak is reported.

DGHS Haryana Sonia Trikha Khullar said that advisories have been issued and integrated disease surveillance project (IDSP) teams in the districts as well as the state level have been activated.
First, there is no need to panic as we are getting all the minute details about this virus. So far as precautions, diagnose and management is concerned, we are fully prepared with this problem,'' said Khullar.
"We have asked the civil surgeons to ensure adequate number of testing kits used for Covid," she added.
The DGHS informed that civil surgeons have also been directed to ensure the enhanced surveillance of suspected cases of cough, cold chest congestion among the children and the youngsters.
Notably, the situation comes at the time when state is already grappling with the cases of dengue and chikungunya. Till Tuesday, with Charkhi Dadri topping the table with 904 cases, Haryana has reported 7,697 dengue cases and four deaths so far. Besides this the state has also reported a total of 546 cases of chikungunya, which have been considered as the highest ever since 2016.
