Four on way to wedding killed as car hits truck on Chandigarh-Hisar highway

Four people were killed after their car hit a truck from the rear on Chandigarh-Hisar highway near Kaithal in Haryana in the early hours of Sunday.

MOHALI: Four people were killed after their car hit a truck from the rear on Chandigarh-Hisar highway near Kaithal in Haryana in the early hours of Sunday.
The four victims have been identified as Ram Singh (46) of Majri village, Surender Kumar (38) and Rajender Pal Singh (46) of Khizrabad village, and Bhushan Singh (33) of Bardar Brahamwala village. They were heading for a wedding ceremony to be held at Jind, police said.

The Maruti Alto car was being driven by Ram Singh, a timber merchant who used to procure wood from Jind. Surender, Rajender and Bhushan worked with him as workers, said investigating officer ASI Rajbir Singh of Kaithal police.
According to police, when they reached near Keorak village in Kaithal district, their car hit a truck from the rear after the truck driver suddenly applied the brakes. The impact was so hard that the front portion of the car got stuck under the truck and the passengers hit the windshield of the car. The back portion of the car was also damaged folded. Police said all the four died on the spot. The truck driver fled.
Some passers-by called the police. Police registered a case against the unknown truck driver under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Kaithal Sadar police station on the complaint of Pradeep Kumar of Bhagwanpur village in Kurukshetra district
"I and my nephew Vinod Kumar of Nanakpuri Colony in Kaithal had gone to attend a marriage at Keorak village. Around 1.10 am, we were heading back home on our motorcycle. When we reached near Abhinandan Hotel, the highway was operational one-way and a Maruti Alto car bearing number CH01AK0652 was going in front of us. A truck bearing (HR46C6225) was in front of that car. Suddenly, the truck driver applied brakes and the car rammed into it from behind."
The bodies have been handed over to family members after the post-mortem at the Kaithal civil hospital.
