Chandigarh: The
Punjab social justice, empowerment and minorities minister announced on Monday that Arvind Kumar, son of Sudama Singh and a resident of Onkar Nagar of district Kapurthala, had his fake Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate rejected by the state-level scrutiny committee, which was constituted by the state government.
Rajesh Kumar Mehra, a resident of Lakhanpur village in Jalandhar district, had lodged a complaint with the Union ministry of social justice, empowerment, and minorities.
The complaint had stated that Arvind had forged an SC certificate despite belonging to the ‘Bhuiya’ caste.
It was further stated that this caste was not included in the list of Scheduled Castes of Punjab. The minister further said that after the department conducted an investigation in this regard, it was confirmed that Arvind’s SC certificate was indeed fake.
The department has written to the Kapurthala deputy commissioner requesting cancellation and confiscation of Arvind’s SC certificate issued on February 1, 1989. The minister said if the SC certificate had been availed for benefits, then that too should be withdrawn.
