Chandigarh: Former Punjab Police Service (PPS) officer Raj Jit Singh has moved the Punjab and Haryana high court, challenging his dismissal from the service. In his plea, the former cop contended that an order dated April 17, dismissing him from the police service, was passed without holding an inquiry.
“The separate order dated April 17 vide which the decision was taken by the department to dispense with the service of the petitioner without holding a regular inquiry has not been communicated to the petitioner till date even after repeated requests by his family members and also on seeking the said order by the counsel for the petitioner by way of a letter dated May 9,” Raj Jit has submitted.

It was argued that he held a civil post and was entitled to furnish a copy of the complete orders to seek remedy of judicial review as permitted under the law. His plea is expected to be heard on Friday.
Raj Jit was dismissed on the basis of a special investigation report on alleged nexus between police officers and drug traffickers. The report, opened on the directions of the high court that has been monitoring Punjab's drug haul case, has pointed at Raj Jit’s alleged involvement in the case. It had also recommended further probe in the case. After the dismissal, the state government had also booked the former officer in connection with the drug related case.
