CHANDIGARH: UT secretary of environment, forest and science and technology Vikram Dev Dutton on Monday inaugurated 60 kWp Grid tied rooftop solar photovoltaic power plant at Government Senior Secondary School, Dhanas. On the occasion, he also inaugurated a herbal garden nursery that has more than 40 varieties of medicinal plants. He also distributed prizes and certificates to winners of competitions held during the Wildlife Week Celebrations at various schools/colleges.
He suggested that if a school is not having enough space for establishing such herbal garden then it can explore to adopt some public area like existing garden nearby and with the approval of competent authority can involve school students in developing such garden there.
Chief Guest appreciated efforts of the department for developing Chandigarh as Model Solar City thereby installing Rooftop solar plants on 100 Govt. buildings of total capacity of 5.3 MW. Santosh Kumar, Director (Science and Technology informed that 60 kWp Grid tied Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant Project has been implemented The total cost of the Project is Rs.59.28 lac which include operation and maintenance charge for 10 years. The Plant shall be able to generate 78,000 kWh (units) per year.
