Cong stages dharnas across Pb against BJP’s ‘vicious politics’
Chandigarh: Leaders of the Punjab Congress staged dharnas at district headquarters across the state on Friday to protest the “vicious politics” of the BJP.
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring led the dharna in Chandigarh. He expressed concerns over the “selective” application of the law in the country.
Warring stressed the importance of upholding the principle of equality before the law and questioned why no action was being taken against the BJP leaders, who had been implicated in criminal cases.

He also raised the issue of the BJP leaders using derogatory, defamatory, and discriminatory language without facing prosecution. Warring said these BJP leaders should be held accountable and brought to justice.
Warring also expressed his disappointment over the Gujarat high court’s decision of not staying the conviction of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Modi surname defamation case. The PPCC chief said it was not unexpected.
Warring, however, spoke about the rarity of such a harsh judgment in defamation cases in India, stating that he was not aware of any such instance in the past. Despite the setback, Warring said the high court’s ruling only strengthened their determination to continue pursuing the matter.

Lauding Rahul Gandhi for his stance against the central government, Warring said he was a fearless leader who could not be intimidated by pressure tactics and harassment. He said the ruling government and its leaders were afraid of Rahul Gandhi's influence and were resorting to efforts to suppress dissenting voices. “The ruling government and its leaders are scared of Rahul Gandhi and are making attempts to stifle his voice. Rahul Gandhi has fearlessly questioned the government on China, demonetisation, unemployment, inflation and other issues,” he said. Warring also participated in the protest at Patiala, where the Congress activists burnt the effigy of PM Narendra Modi before the rain started.
Interestingly, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu and his supporters stayed away from the protest.
Meanwhile, replying to a query on Mukhtar Ansari, Warring said Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa had already made everything clear on the UP gangster, but the Bhagwant Mann government could make the recovery if they think it was possible.
