Chandigarh: To mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Chandigarh zonal unit of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) organised a walkathon in collaboration with Chandigarh Police at Sukhna Lake. The event was part of “Nashe Se Azadi” pakhwada (fortnight). Sniffer dogs trained by the NCB, Bubbly and Bruno were the centre of attraction during the event.
Before the walkathon, Bruno and Bubbly, both black labradors welcomed the chief guests in the presence of their trainers.
NCB officials said that over 500 persons (city residents, NCC, NSS and SPYM volunteers) participated in the event and 1,000 spectators were present. The walkathon was flagged off by Chandigarh deputy commissioner (DC) Vinay
Pratap Singh and superintendent of police (SP, headquarters), Chandigarh Police
Ketan Bansal. The participants took the pledge of “Say yes to life, no to drugs.”
Youngsters who successfully overcame their addiction to drugs shared their stories with people and motivated them to live a healthy life. A private FM channel also launched a special campaign, “Drug negative - to create awareness among the youth about the ill effects of drugs” in association with Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chandigarh zonal unit.
The NCB is organising the Nasha Se Azadi Pakhwada from June 12 to June 26 to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Under the campaign, various programmes and events will be organised simultaneously in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh by the NCB to create awareness among the youth about the ill-effects of drugs.
