Two high-definition CCTV cameras installed on 15-foot poles along the Abohar-Sri Ganganagar national highway-15 (NH-15) in Fazilka district have been stolen.

Abohar: Two high-definition CCTV cameras installed on 15-foot poles along the Abohar-Sri Ganganagar national highway-15 (NH-15) in Fazilka district have been stolen.
Confirming the incident, Abohar superintendent of police Harjit Singh said the CCTV cameras fixed on the Fazilka road were not working.
Sources said the following the terror attack on the Pathankot airbase, police reviewed security arrangements in Abohar during which it was learned that paucity of funds had led to problems in maintaining CCTV cameras installed at major points in and around the town, including on the national highways.

Sources further said the CCTV cameras, which were functional, also had connectivity problem with the police control room. tnn
Abohar SP admitted that the department had to make a payment of Rs 1.5 lakh to the contractor and higher officials were in know of things.
NH-15 is of strategic importance as it runs parallel to the international border with Pakistan. However, theft of CCTV cameras from the highway has put a question mark over the security of the border area.
