CHANDIGARH: To mark the World Population Day, the Centre for Adult, Continuing Education & Extension, Panjab University, organized a function in the Community Centre, Sector-25 in collaboration with Don Bosco Navjeevan Centre here. More than 50 people participated in the function. Dr CL Narang, former director, Adult, Continuing Education and Extension and NSS Panjab University, presided over the function.
He said that the long-old Indian traditions and culture were responsible for the tremendous growth of population in our society, and there was need to change the psyche to adopt small family norms and to ameliorate the status of women. Dr Sween, director of the Centre, made it clear to the participants that self-dependent of women would go a long way to arrest the pace of increasing population in our country. She added that the Panjab University was holding some vocational courses, which provide opportunities to women for becoming self-dependent and economically better.SD Kalia from Don Bosco Navjeevan Centre, while welcoming the guests, gave an account of the programmes the Society was organising for the poor and under-privileged society in Chandigarh and elsewhere. He highlighted that the families having more than 3-4 children were facing economic problems.
