Banwarilal Purohit felicitated 61 children of the children home, who had won medals in the rugby championship (sub-junior and junior) here on Monday. A total of 36 girls and 25 boys living in the Children Home being run by the department of social welfare - Snehalaya for Boys, Maloya, Chandigarh and Snehalaya for Girls, Sector 15, won eight gold, 32 silver and 21 bronze medals in the sub-junior (under-14) and junior (under-18) rugby championship held from April 29 to April 30.
The championship was organised by the State Rugby Football Association at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
“The 61 children have shown exemplary performance in sports. As a result of their dedication, 14 children of Snehalaya for boys and girls (seven boys and seven girls) have been selected and have gone to play National-level Rugby championship in Pune,
Maharashtra,” said a UT spokesperson.
Efforts of the children were acknowledged by the administrator in the presence of Nitin Kumar Yadav, secretary, social welfare, women and child development-cum-home secretary, Chandigarh. Certificate of appreciation was given to them at
