BHOPAL: A woman from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has filed for divorce after eight months of marriage because her husband took her to Varanasi and Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, along with his parents, instead of Goa for their honeymoon, an official reported. The divorce application is currently under consideration during the counseling stage, and efforts are being made to find an amicable solution between the woman and her husband, as stated by Family Court marriage counselor Shail Awasthi on Thursday.

"They got married on May 3 last year. The woman insisted on going on a honeymoon abroad as they both earn well. The husband, an IT professional, and the woman, employed in a private company," said Awasthi.
"The husband was initially hesitant about going abroad for the honeymoon and later agreed to consider destinations like Goa or somewhere in South India, citing the need to care for his parents," added the official.
Without informing his wife, the man booked flight tickets to Ayodhya and Varanasi and informed her about the trip just a day before departure, according to Awasthi.
"He told his wife that his mother wanted to visit Ayodhya before the idol consecration of the Ram Temple. The woman did not object at the time but had an argument over it once the family returned, leading to the filing of a divorce application. In her statement, the woman claimed that the man prioritized taking care of his parents over her," the official stated, quoting the divorce application.
The couple is currently undergoing counseling, but it may take some time for the matter to be resolved, added Awasthi.
