BANGALORE: Rajeshwari Venkataramanappa, 33, who allegedly ran her car over a daily wage construction worker in Jayanagar 6th block on Saturday night, was arrested on Monday.

"The car, which was ahead of me, stopped suddenly. I tried to get my car under control in vain," she said.
Soon after the accident, Rajeshwari ran back home, locked her kids inside and fled the scene. Later, Jayanagar police took her husband Venkataramanappa's help in tracking her down.
"Rajeshwari was hiding in a close relative's house. Sensing we will trace and arrest her, she surrendered on Monday morning," Jayanagar traffic police said.
Investigation revealed that Rajeshwari did not have a permanent driving licence. "She was not well-versed in driving. Her neighbours alleged that Rajeshwari used to drive very rashly near her house in Jayanagar 6{+t}{+h} block," police said.
Section 134 of Motor Vehicles Act says that any person causing accident and injuring others, should shift them to hospital immediately. "Rajeshwari violated this rule also," police confirmed.

Another killer driver still on the run
A hit-and-run case in which a woman drove a Toyota Fortuner over a construction labourer sleeping on a pavement in Banaswadi on March 12, 2012 is yet to be cracked.
The woman was driving an SUV of a friend. The police later identified the elusive woman as P Manjula alias Mahi, 37, a resident of Babusabpalya and daughter of Prasannachari. Originally, Manjula is from Ittigegud in Mysore. Her sister and mother stay in Mysore city.
Mahi has evaded all efforts by the police to trace her. The Central Crime Branch of the city police have now been entrusted the task of tracking down the fugitive woman.
