CHANNAPATNA/BELUr: In his first direct attack at JD(S) and its first family of former PM HD Deve Gowda, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi said every vote for JD(S) will be a vote towards an unstable government in
Karnataka. He called the regional outfit Congress’ ‘B’ team.
At a rally in Channapatna, in the Vokkaliga heartland and the backyard of JD(S) — former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy is contesting from the segment — Modi said the regional party and Congress were on the same footing on their idea of Karnataka.
He said every time a Congress government is elected, it implements “reverse gear” policies and JD(S) just agrees. “For BJP, Karnataka is the growth engine of the country, but Congress and JD(S) want to use it as their ATM,” he said.
“They are two sides of the same coin and are cozy with each other in Delhi. They always support each other in Parliament and are both dynastic parties.” He juxtaposed JD(S) and Congress style of functioning saying: “Congress serves Delhi parivar while JD(S) serves one parivar. If Delhi parivar decides anything, JD(S) does not even bother to express its agenda for people’s welfare.”
Modi went on to suggest that a fractured mandate is what Congress and JD(S) are looking for. “Both these parties encourage corruption,” he said. “They look for an opportunity in instability. So much so, the JD(S) is openly claiming that if they win 15-20 seats then they will become kingmakers.” The PM went on to target the Deve Gowda family without naming them, saying such opportunism would benefit “one family” but hurt lakhs of families in Karnataka.
“Every vote that goes to JD(S) falls into Congress’ account. It will bring instability in Karnataka. For this reason ‘Ee baariya nirdhara BJP bahumatha sarkara’ (this time the decision must be for a complete majority for BJP),” he said. “When there is a BJP government, there is a double engine government, and it is a government for everyone. It is one that will ensure 100% profit for every family.”
