Venezuelan swallows 91 drug capsules, caught at KIA

BENGALURU: A Venezuelan national was nabbed by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence sleuths at Kempegowda International Airport while attempting to smuggle what is suspected to be the purest form of cocaine in his stomach. He had swallowed 91 capsules containing cocaine (in pic) worth Rs 9.2 crore in the international market.
DRI’s Bengaluru unit got a tipoff that a large quantity of drugs was being smuggled into the city from Brazil via Dubai on Feb 9 morning.

Accordingly, sleuths checked passengers disembarking from an Emirates flight that landed at KIA. The team intercepted the man, a 40-year-old Venezuelan passport holder who holds an Indian tourist visa.
The DRI team got a court order and took the smuggler to a government medical facility where he was housed till Monday and all the contraband capsules were extracted, sources said. The Venezuelan was later arrested and booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. He was remanded in judicial custody and sent to Bengaluru Central Prison.
