BANGALORE: The Centre is roping in Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and IIT-Chennai to help revive traditional engineering. It wants more post-graduate and doctoral students in the stream.
IISc's role is to contribute in skill development and produce more PG and doctoral graduates.
Jairam Ramesh, IISc director P Balaram and BHEL MD discussed the modalities on Monday.
Ramesh said BHEL has agreed to invest Rs 10 crore to set up a centre for excellence at CPRI for power testing and engineering.
"Bangalore has lost its prominent position in power engineering to IT. Institutional linkages are necessary to develop Bangalore as a hub for power engineering,'' Ramesh said.
