BANGALORE: Rain on Friday evening brought some much-need relief from the sweltering heat. Parts of the city recorded less than 1 cm rain, but the good news is rainy days are ahead, with the monsoon likely to hit Karnataka by the first week of June. According to meteorological department director A Muthuchami, around 12 cm of rain is expected in the city in May; so far less than 50% of this has been recorded.
"The city usually receives good amount of rain in the last week of May. With the rainy season commencing from June first week, we expect normal rainfall," said Muthuchami. The department forecast says the monsoon will reach Trivandrum on May 26. In a week's time from then, southern and coastal Karnataka will receive rain. Monsoon clouds from Andaman and Nicobar Islands will move north-westward and within 20 days, they will be over Kerala and moving towards other southern states.
