Katta Senior seeks bail, quashing of chargesheet
Former minister and MLA Katta Subramanya Naidu is not only seeking bail, but also quashing of the chargesheet against him in connection with the KIADB land scam.
Placing his arguments before the special Lokayukta judge N K Sudhindra Rao on Tuesday, Katta’s counsel C V Nagesh said that Katta had been implicated by Lokayukta police with a mala fide intention.

Nagesh argued that Lokayukta police had not followed due processes while seeking prosecution sanction against Katta. Police had sought sanction for prosecution from the governor on July 6 and filed the chargesheet before the court on July 8.
“At the time of filing the chargesheet, Katta was not a minister and hence there was no need to seek sanction from the governor. Even if it was sought, as per the Supreme Court order, the request application should have been first placed before the cabinet and then sent to the governor. As Katta is an MLA, the sanction should have been obtained from the assembly speaker. None of these have been followed,’’ argued Nagesh. For seeking bail, Nagesh said Katta was cooperating with police and there was no chance of him tampering with the evidence as many witnesses were the officials.
Representing Katta’s corporator son Katta Jagadish, Nagesh said here too, police action was mala fide. “Despite this, my client is cooperating with police. He should be granted bail,’’ he said.
Opposing the bail, public prosecutor I S Pramodh Chandra said they had prima facie evidence against Katta and his son and the charges were serious in nature. He expressed apprehensions about the duo tampering with the evidence if granted bail. The judge adjourned the case for further hearing on July 28.
