BENGALURU: Following a lot of complaints from parents about their wards being allotted test centres away from their schools for the newly introduced class 5 and 8 examinations, the department of school education and literacy has said that the students’ own schools will be their exam centres now.
The new evaluation exam for class 5 and 8 students is being held from March 13 for the first time.
The evaluation is common for all state-syllabus schools
across Karnataka. The question papers are being prepared by Karnataka School Evaluation and Assessment Board.
The students were to sit for the exams at schools other than their own if the latter did not have the minimum required strength. However, most parents and students were unhappy because of the inconvenience and extra stress this system would create.
“The department says it is not an exam, just an evaluation. But all the build-up is meant for an exam. To write the paper from an unfamiliar place can add so much stress to a small child’s mind. The department was being illogical,” a school principal said.
