BANGALORE: Acting in drama with students and teaching them music for competitions, N Sathya Prakash was no ordinary teacher. And, now with the national teachers award, this assistant master, from Vidya Vardhaka Sangha High School, Rajajinagar, it’s certified — he’s the best teacher one can get.
Poverty forced Sathya Prakash drop out of school when he was in Class 10.
After earning some money for a year, he got back into school. “When I was in Class 6, I was asked to take a class in Kannada and later in Class 10. Those two instances helped me make up my mind. Teaching was my passion,” he said.
“With my qualifications, I would have easily got a job in a college, but I preferred to teach high school students. That is when, they can be transformed — the most crucial days,” he said.
Sathya maintains a register where he keeps the contact details of all the students he taught in his 30-year career. “I have my style of teaching. I take them to the spot to teach. For instance, I used to take my students to jail to teach prison reforms. And my kids love me for it.”
Sathya also had the habit of landing up unexpectedly at the house of students who did not perform well in exams. “It turned out to be helpful to many students,” he said.
