bangalore: when nagathihalli chandrasekhar''s kannada mega serial kaveriwas telecast, it was the role of ganga, the blind girl, that won rave reviews from viewers. for a year, the girl acted as a blind person and became a household name for ever. even today, the girl is recognised as ganga by everyone. that''s geetha suryavamshi for you. ``i came to the small screen by chance, not by choice,'''' says geetha.``i never wanted to be an actress. but before i could decide my future, i was in the field.'''' geetha was interested in plays from a young age. ``i always attended the plays in which my sister ranjeetha acted. during one of the plays, i was offered a role in bhakta prahlada. from then onwards, i never looked back.'''' she entered the tv and then the film industry.'''' geetha has more than 40 kannada serials and a number of films to her credit. but she would like to identify herself as a stage actor. ``i have acted in kannada plays abachurina post office, shani mahatme, kubi mathu iyala and hejjegalu. in fact, i won the best actress award in the all-india drama contest held in mumbai in 2000. the play was basvanth cheluvi. i have won several prizes for my roles in plays.'''' geetha also won accolades in the contests organised by shashi kalavidaru and yuvaranga at various places. geetha''s popular serials include sahana, nikshepa, sadhane, swarga, kannadi, belli there, prathibimba and sankranthi.her films include athi madhura anuraga, gau chup, munnudi. ``i had a glamourless role in nikshepa, but i enjoyed it,'''' says geetha who believes that she is getting roles she is expecting. ``everyone chooses the roles, but in my case, i am getting roles that i always expect.'''' geetha has no plans for the future. ``i continue acting as long as people accept me as an actress. later, let me see,'''' says the young actress stating that she is very happy to act in serials. ``but my priority is theatre, serials and films.'''' geetha has an ambition. ``i want to direct plays. hope my dream is fulfilled.''''
