BANGALORE: The utility of donkeys in generating electricity and drawing water, using a modified Royal Enfield motorbike to pull a trolley and functioning of Korean and Chinese transplanters are a few among the many highlights of the four-day National Agricultural Machineries Exhibition (NAME), beginning in Bangalore from Thursday.
Briefing reporters about the exhibition on Wednesday, Agriculture Minister T.B.
Jayachandra said about 120 agencies from 12 states including government, private and MNCs will participate. The meet will seek to create awareness among farmers about the availability of cost-effective and hi-tech agricultural equipment. ``There will be about 200 stalls in three pavilions.''''
The exhibition, to be inaugurated by Chief Minister S.M. Krishna, is being organised by the Agriculture Department and Institution of Agricultural Technologists. ``This will provide a forum for interaction between equipment manufacturers and farmers, which will enable both to understand each other''s needs,'''' he added.
The indoor and outdoor exhibition are coming up in an area of 80,000 sq ft and two acres respectively in the unused space behind the Karnataka Agro Industries Corporation.
Krishna will also lay the foundation for construction of an International Flower Auction Centre.
