Eggs in midday meals extended to twice a week, till class 10

BENGALURU: Eggs in midday meals, will officially be served to students in government and aided schools not once, but twice a week across the state. Students of class nine and 10 also stand to benefit from the scheme.
The students who choose a vegetarian option, will be given bananas or chikki.
The department of school education, in a circular dated 11 August, confirmed it.

Shubha Kalyan, director of PM Poshan Scheme (Midday Meal Scheme) said that, now students will receive two eggs a week. This means that the 48 days a year scheme is extended to 80, she added, about the scheme that will be launched on August 18.
As per the circular, excepting the class 1-8 students of eight districts under Kalyana Karnataka that come under flexi funding (proportional spend by centre and state), the programme for all other students is being funded wholly by the state government.
In 23 districts, the government will spend Rs 1,44,752 lakh and Rs 5,750 lakh for class 9 and 10 students in 31 districts entirely on its own.
This is besides the partial funding towards 1-8 standard students in the eight Kalyana Karnataka districts.
