BANGALORE: From Basavanagudi Union in 1901 at a rented building to a cosmopolitan club in 2004, the Basavanagudi Club celebrated more than 100 years of existence.

BANGALORE: From Basavanagudi Union in 1901 at a rented building to a cosmopolitan club in 2004, the Basavanagudi Club celebrated more than 100 years of existence.
Centenary celebrations held from May 21 to 23 was marked by cultural events like plays and dances.
It was culminated with the release of a souvenir by chief guests Nissar Ahmed and G Venkataka Subbaiah.

On the occasion, club members recalled the contributions of luminaries like Masti Venkatesha Iyengar who was a member of the club. Other members include minister B K Chandrashekar, cricketers Padmashree G R Vishwanath and Sudhakar Rao. When it started, the aim of the club was to provide the amenities of club life, then the privilege of the British, to the residents of the locality.
It now boasts of a spacious building, tennis court, library, bar counter apart from conducting various cultural activities.
