Woman poisons 2 daughters, hangs one, then herself in Kheri

Bareilly: A 50-year-old woman allegedly fed poison to her two daughters, hanged one of them, and then died by suicide in the Mailani police station area of Lakhimpur Kheri on Friday, police said. The younger daughter died, while the elder one is battling for her life.Police said the incident is prima facie linked to depression after Phoolmati's son, Pawan Kumar, in his early 30s, died in a road accident in Pilibhit about a month and a half ago. Autopsy reports are awaited to establish the exact sequence of events, additional superintendent of police Amit Kumar Rai said.Police said Phoolmati allegedly took her daughters—Nimisha (19) and Kanchan (25)—to a vacant house across the lane in Kakori village. She allegedly administered poison to both, then hanged Nimisha from a ceiling hook using a cot rope, before hanging herself in the same room.Kanchan was found lying unconscious on the floor. Locals alerted the police, and all three were rushed to a nearby community health centre, where doctors declared Phoolmati and Nimisha dead. Kanchan, who remains critical, was referred to a higher medical facility in Lucknow.Police said a blank sheet of paper and a pen found at the spot suggest a possible attempt to write a suicide note.
