STF seize 1.10 quintal charas worth Rs 1.25 crore
BAREILLY: Sleuths of Special Task Force (STF) seized 1.10 quintal of charas that was being brought from Lohaghat, Uttarakhand and taken to Rampur on Thursday night. The contraband was found packed inside sacks containing green chillies and is valued at around Rs 1.25 crore in the international market. Two people, carrying the contraband in their Bolero, have been arrested.

As per reports, STF officials received a tip-off that contraband drug was being brought to the city from Nepal and Uttarakhand and supplied into neighbouring districts.
STF team laid a trap near Sirsagunj police outpost in Baheri tehsil on Thursday night. When the team signaled a Bolero coming from Uttarkhand to stop, the occupants tried to flee from the spot. They were given a hot chase and were apprehended by the team.
On inspection of the car, police found a cavity inside the vehicle which was opened in presence of the driver. The team found 110 packets of charas packed in polythene pouches, weighing around 110 kg. The contraband was seized and two occupants, including the driver, were arrested.
The two have been identified as Tahir Hussain, resident of Udham Singh Nagar and Mohd Arif, resident of Moradabad. They revealed that the seized narcotics belonged to a notorious drug smuggler from Rampur.
“The two revealed that they used to bring the contraband from Lohaghat, where they parked their vehicle near a roadside dhaba. It was then taken away by the agents of the drug supplier, who then loaded the contraband. For every trip, the two used to get Rs 6,000 each,” said STF inspector, Ajay Pal Singh, who led the operation.
He added that the two have been charged under various section of Indian penal Code and under provision of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and sent to jail. The value of the seized charas is around Rs 1.25 crore in the international market.
