District authorities will clamp down on clinics conducting pre-natal diagnostic test to determine the sex of a foetus

5,000 has been announced for those giving information about the operation of such clinics in Bareilly
division, commissioner K RavindraNaik
said, while presiding over a meeting of officials of the health and animal husbandry departments. Naik
added that ultrasound clinics authorized to conducting medical diagnostic tests are also indulging in unethical practices like conducting pre-natal diagnostic tests to determine the sex of the foetus
, in violation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT
) Act 1994. He said the Rs 5,000 award was being offered to prevent the practice of female foeticide.
