Pilibhit: Superintendent of police Sukirti Madhav on Monday returned 206 mobile phones to their owners in Pilibhit. The devices had been lost over the past year due to various reasons other than theft or snatching.
The total value of the recovered phones was estimated at Rs 24 lakh based on their purchase invoices. The SP said the handsets were traced and recovered with the help of the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) portal. Among the recovered devices, the costliest phone was valued at Rs 44,000, while the least expensive was worth about Rs 2,200.
"The individuals from whom the phones were recovered had purchased them at second-hand prices from those who initially found them. Since they were not involved in theft or snatching, they were not treated as offenders or subjected to legal action," the SP said.
