Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Deputy chief minister Sunetra Pawar on Thursday chaired her maiden meeting of the district planning and development council for Beed as the district guardian minister, and approved the construction of 11 hostels for the children of sugar cane cutters at a cost of Rs 159.4 crore.
The deputy chief minister attended the meeting virtually from Mumbai and appealed to the authorities and local elected representatives to extend support to develop Beed on the lines of Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and Baramati, as dreamt by her late husband and deputy CM
Ajit Pawar.
In the past, the Social Justice Department had approved a total of 22 hostels in Beed district under the Sant Bhagwanbaba govt hostel scheme for the children of migrant sugar cane workers. Sunetra Pawar approved the funds required for the construction of 11 of these hostels, which will come up at Patoda, Kaij, Parli, Georai, Majalgaon and the district headquarters of Beed.
"Late deputy CM Ajit Pawar dreamed that the sons and daughters of sugar cane workers should study and come into the mainstream of education. He made efforts and followed up on the matter when he was the guardian minister of Beed. He also instructed the Public Works Department to build these hostels on the lines of hostels coming up for the Maratha community students through the ‘SARTHI'," an official release said, quoting Sunetra Pawar.
The DPDC meeting saw a presentation of the financial outlay for 2026-27 and also a review of expenditure made during the current financial year.
At the beginning of the meeting, a video showing the works of the late deputy CM Ajit Pawar in Beed district was shown, and condolences were offered by observing silence for 2 minutes.
