Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: BJP's Anil Makariye on Thursday was elected as the chairman of the standing committee of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC).
Makariye received 10 votes whereas Abdul Matin Khan of AIMIM secured four votes. Two members of the standing committee abstained from voting.
Makariye, who was among the frontrunners for the post of mayor, could not hold his tears after his election. While expressing his gratitude towards the party leadership, especially cabinet minister Atul Save, Makariye said it wasa matter of great responsibility and pride for him to serve the historical city.
"A large amount of funds have been spent on roads, smart city projects as well as various works at the ward level. Due to this development, our city is also getting ready for industrial investment. Despite the large budget of the municipal corporation, there are issues in tax collection and increasing revenue, which we will address effectively," he said.
Meanwhile, Shobha Burande got elected as the chairman of civic body's women and child welfare committee whereas Shaikh Pashu became the chairman of the city improvement committee. Among other key panels, Sunit Solunke was elected as the chairman of the medical aid and health committee.
The special general body meeting of CSMC on March 5constituted the standing committee and five other panels of the local civic body.
