Task force arrests 4 smugglers, seizes Rs 62.5 lakh worth red sanders logs

TIRUPATI: The red sanders anti smuggling task force sleuths arrested four smugglers and seized 54 red sanders logs weighing 1250 kilograms near Chabolu in Nandyal district on Friday.According to Tirupati SP L Subba Rayudu, Kadapa reserve inspector M Chiranjeevulu and his team acted on specific information received regarding red sanders smuggling and undertook vehicular checks near Chabolu in Nandyal district on Friday.During the vehicular checks, they noticed some persons suspiciously alighting a mini truck at some distance away from the police checks, and trying to abscond away after abandoning the truck.The task force personnel chased the suspects and took them into custody. Upon inspecting the truck later, police found out 54 dressed-up red sanders logs concealed inside the vehicle. Police seized the red sanders logs which were worth approximately Rs.62.5 lakh. The mini truck used for the smuggling activity was also seized.According to Tirupati SP, while one among the four accused belongs to Rajasthan, two others were natives of Prakasam district and one more accused was from Hyderabad.
