TIRUPATI: The faction ridden Allagadda assembly constituency in Nandyal district, is on a high alert, following a murder attempt on ex TDP minister Bhuma Akhila Priya's bodyguard Nikhil past midnight on Tuesday.
Nikhil was standing on the main road, outside Bhuma Akhila Priya's residence at Allagadda town, when a speeding SUV rammed over him from nowhere.
Three unidentified men who jumped out of the vehicle, indiscriminately attacked Nikhil, with various weapons.
The victim, who managed to free himself from the clutches of the accused, ran into Akhila Priya's house to save his life.
The accused involved in the attack slipped into the darkness and absconded away.
Nikhil was immediately rushed to the govt hospital at Nandyal for treatment.
Meanwhile, Bhuma Akhila Priya visited the hospital, where Nikhil was hospitalized on Wednesday. She demanded the police to take action against all those responsible for the murder attempt.
Suspecting the role of Akhila Priya's longtime political adversary AC Subba Reddy's role, Allagadda police booked cases against AC Subba Reddy and five others on Wednesday.
Police suspect that murder attempt on Nikhil was a retaliation attack.
It may be recalled that during TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh's Padayatra, Bhuma Akhila Priya's and AC Subba Reddy's groups clashed with one another and Nikhil reportedly slapped AC Subba Reddy in the melee then.
Akhila Priya's followers alleged that AC Subba Reddy, who bore a grudge, executed the attack on Nikhil past midnight on Tuesday.
