Baby care on the go: Railways to sell baby food at stations

Prayagraj: The North Eastern Railways(NER) is set to introduce a new facility for passengers traveling with babies. Soon, train passengers will be able to purchase baby food and other essential items for baby care at major railway stations, including Rambagh. These items will be available at multi-purpose stalls (MPS) located on platforms. The initiative comes in response to feedback from passengers who often face difficulties finding suitable food for infants during their journeys. With this new facility, parents can now easily access baby care essentials while traveling, making their journeys smoother and more convenient."The headquarter has floated a tender for operating MPS and selling various products through it, including baby food and other items needed for baby care, and the same will be made available to the passengers at Rambagh station," said public relations officer (PRO), Varanasi Division of NER, Ashok Kumar. Apart from this, sanitary napkins and other products needed for the personal care of female passengers will be made available at these MPS counters, he added.Items that will be sold through MPS include powdered milk and cereal mixed food items for infants. Along with this, packed coconut water, packed lemonade, ice cream, and various milk products will also be available at the food stalls on the platform. The facility of baby food is currently available only at select railway stations in the country, as there are stalls of milk products, but baby food is not available to passengers at any stall.
However, at various stations coming under the jurisdiction of Prayagraj Division of North Central Railways (NCR), baby food has been made available by the division."Recently, items like fresh fruits and fruit juice have been made available at different platforms under our division, and moving a step further, we have asked MPS to sell a number of items, including items of baby care, including baby food," said senior DCM, Prayagraj Division, Himanshu Shukla.
