AJMER: Singing the national anthem every Monday has become compulsory in every jail of the state. The idea is to provide a feeling of nationality and responsibility towards society. DGP (jails) Bhupendra Kumar Dak issued directions to all prisons of including Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Jodhpur and others.
"To inculcate the feeling of being a proud Indian and to connect self with the nation is the theme of the programme," said Dak.
Prisoners will also have weekly parade on the jail premises followed by the national anthem.
Uptil now, the national anthem was sung in jails only on the occasion of Independence and Republic days by the staff. However, from now, it is compulsory fpr every prisoner to sing the national anthem on Mondays.
Ajmer central jail superintendent Suman Maliwal said on Monday morning, all prisoners, staff and officials gathered on the jail premises and sang the national anthem and shouted slogans of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai.'
She said the aim and importance of the national anthem was also narrated to prisoners. "National anthem unites all citizens and narrates the importance and beauty of the country. The anthem is the symbol of harmony," she said. Similar programmes were conducted in other jails including Jaipur, Kota, Jodhpur and even in small jails of districts. The order of DGP (jails) has been implemented from February 6.
