AHMEDABAD: The city Crime Branch got the custody of two more accused in the Naroda-Patia carnage, on Wednesday. A metropolitan court remanded both in police custody till June 7. The arrests come a day after chargesheet against 49 accused in the Naroda-Patia incident was filed by the investigators at the city''s metropolitan court.
While one Mukesh alias Guddu Jivanlal Chhara (31) had been arrested by the Naroda police on June 3, the other accused Ashok Shilwat Parmar (45) was arrested by the Crime Branch sleuths on Wednesday.
Both were among the 21 reported absconding in the Naroda-Patia case. These arrests take the total number of accused arrested in this case to 30. Eighty-six people had been killed in this carnage. Of this, two died of police firing and one was run over by a mini-truck during the communal strife.
Mukesh was arrested by Naroda police as one of the prime accused named in FIR number 110/2002. In this police complaint, he has been charged for rioting, arson and loot in Saijpur-Patia.
Police sources added that in the Naroda-Patia case Mukesh has even been accused of rape. "During two days of interrogation at the Crime Branch, Mukesh may reveal a lot more about what had exactly happened on February 28 between 11 am and 8 pm at Naroda-Patia," said a police official.
Custody of Chhara and Parmar coincidentally concludes on the same day as that of the other more "well-known" accused of in Naroda-Patia massacre -- Babu Bajrangi (Bajrang Dal activist), Padmendra Singh alias PJ Rajput (BJP member) and Kishan Khubchand Korani (VHP activist).
Crime Branch officials may file supplementary chargesheets against all the five after the remand period.
