AHMEDABAD: A 71-year old businessman from Afghanistan Nasrullah Nazar Mohammad was finding it difficult to live life back in his home in Kandhar. His weight, a whopping 117 kg, made it difficult for him to walk around the home and carry on with the routine activities. However, this new-age Kabuliwallah dealing in dry fruits with major exports in India, was urged by his business associates in New Delhi to come to India for treatment.
Off late, he also started suffering bouts of nausea and vomiting. He was diagnosed with multiple stones in the gall bladder compounded with morbid obesity. Since Mohammad’s son Ahmadullah was in touch in Ahmedabad-based bariatric surgeon Dr Mahendra Narwaria for his proposed weight loss surgery, the father son duo came to the city.
“My father was operated in Apollo Hospital here for both gall bladder and weight loss surgery. Since he has been very involved with our dry fruit business, his only activity would be to go to the business office and come back home. He is looking forward to be more active after losing weight”, Ahmadullah told TOI.
Interestingly, this is Ahmadullah’s second visit to Ahmedabad. He had come here earlier to buy an innovative machine which easily helps clean cumin seeds which was a boon to his business where they mainly deal in exporting cumin seeds, almonds, figs and raisins to India.
Ahmadullah says that tales of violence appear scarier when they are broadcast but in reality situations are not so bad. “Contrary to public belief, Kandhar is peaceful these days. We too had heard tales of communal mayhem in Ahmedabad but people here are peaceful and warm”, sad Ahmadullah.
Nasrullah is looking forward to shedding weight which was mainly due to sedentary lifestyle and rich eating habits. “Doctors say my blood pressure and diabetes will also come down with some weight loss”, said Nasrullah.
