Gujarat best performer yet again in startup ranking

Gujarat has once again secured the top position in the States' Startup Ranking 2022, according to the National Report by the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The report, unveiled by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi, highlighted Gujarat's consistent performance as the best performer for the fourth consecutive year. In the category comprising states with a population of over 1 crore, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu emerged as top performers. The report also revealed that around 1,800 startups have been granted patents, contributing to the total of over 1.17 lakh recognized startups in India. Gujarat's 'Know your Approval' initiative and its effective grievances redressal system were recognized as exemplary practices in the report. The state's startup community celebrated the achievement, emphasizing the importance of financing and widespread availability of incubators. Additionally, Education Minister Kuber Dindor launched a Startup Guide for students of Classes 6 to 12 on the same day.

In Category A - comprising states with a population of more than 1 crore - the best performers included Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Ministry officials said that Gujarat has been ranked as the best performer for the fourth time in a row, whereas Karnataka has won the spot for the second consecutive year. They added that about 1,800 startups have been granted patents, and the number of recognized startups in India has reached over 1.17 lakh.
A compendium of best practices along with the report identified Gujarat's initiative to 'Know your Approval' and its grievances redressal system as among the best in the country.
Gujarat's startup community rejoiced at the news and felt the momentum should continue. "The year 2020-21 was a watershed moment as it taught promoters to ride the challenges thrown by Covid. Easy availability of financing and incubators at almost all major educational institutes is a plus," said an Ahmedabad-based startup promoter.
On Tuesday, education minister Kuber Dindor launched the Startup Guide for students of Classes 6 to 12.
