AHMEDABAD: Gujarat again emerged as the top performer in the States' Startup Ranking 2022: National Report by Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the ministry of commerce and industry. The report was launched by commerce minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday in New Delhi.
In Category A - comprising states with a population of more than 1 crore - the best performers included Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Ministry officials said that Gujarat has been ranked as the best performer for the fourth time in a row, whereas Karnataka has won the spot for the second consecutive year. They added that about 1,800 startups have been granted patents, and the number of recognized startups in India has reached over 1.17 lakh.
A compendium of best practices along with the report identified Gujarat's initiative to 'Know your Approval' and its grievances redressal system as among the best in the country.
Gujarat's startup community rejoiced at the news and felt the momentum should continue. "The year 2020-21 was a watershed moment as it taught promoters to ride the challenges thrown by Covid. Easy availability of financing and incubators at almost all major educational institutes is a plus," said an Ahmedabad-based startup promoter.
On Tuesday, education minister Kuber Dindor launched the Startup Guide for students of Classes 6 to 12.
