AHMEDABAD: The city police registered four complaints under the Juvenile Justice Act and rescued eight minors found working in tea stalls and restaurants in Vastrapur, Sola and Ellisbridge areas.
The cops are the complainants in the Vastrapur case. The FIR states that based on a tip-off they conducted checks at Rotalo Gujarati Ras Thal in Himalaya Arcade and found two 17-year-olds working in the kitchen and serving area.
Both the teenagers were employed for Rs 10,000 per month and worked from 9am till late in the night. They were hired by the eatery around two months ago. Vastrapur police have registered a complaint against Dhruvesh Desai, a resident of Ghatlodia, and the owner of the restaurant.
Another complaint was registered at Sola High Court police station against Haresh Patel, a resident of Gota. The police said that they raided the Khodal Kathiyawadi Hotel situated on SG Highway and found a 15-year-old from Bihar working there. He had been working at the hotel since February and was paid a monthly salary of Rs 7,000. He was made to work from 8am till midnight with a three-hour break in between, the complaint states.
Two other complaints were registered at Ellisbridge police station. One of them was registered against one Iqbal Saleha, who had employed two kids aged 13 and 17 at Alpine Restaurant near V S Hospital. Both kids are natives of Rajasthan and were paid Rs 9,000 per month. The younger kid was made to clean utensils while the older child was made to work in the kitchen.
Another complaint was registered against Kamlesh Mehta and Bipin Barot, owners of Mehta Bhel and Restaurant located near V S Hospital. The cops found three children, two aged 14 years and one, 16. Natives of Rajasthan, they lived in the hotel and were paid Rs 8,000 per month.
