Foreign tourist looted of jewellery worth lakhs
Agra: A foreign tourist’s bag, containing jewellery worth lakhs of rupees, was allegedly stolen from a cab parked outside a hotel on Fatehabad road on Friday.
Police officials have asked jewellery shop owners to inform them in case anyone contacts them for selling jewellery.
According to the police, Di-Micelle, a resident of California, USA, was having lunch at a hotel on Fatehabad road. She had left her bag, containing jewellery, credit cards and some medicines, inside the cab she had hired from New Delhi.
Meanwhile, when the cab driver parked the vehicle on the road and went to the washroom, a few men arrived on a motorcycle and broke the glass of one of the car’s windows and fled with the bag.
“The thieves, who were wearing helmets, disappeared by the time we ran to stop them,” said an eyewitness.
CO Sadar, Asim Chaudhary told TOI that Di-Micelle had come to Agra on Thursday. She had a translator cum guide with her.
The victim told the police that there were some medicines in the bag along with some credit cards and jewellery worth several lakhs.
“An FIR under section 376 (theft) has been lodged on the complaint of the tourist,” said CO Sadar adding that police is requesting all the jewellery shop owners in the city to inform them in-case anyone will come to sell foreign ornaments to them.
