Bus driver breaks caught speeding 13 times, sacked
AGRA: A driver of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation was fired from his job after he was caught violating the speed limit 13 times in a single day. Such a strict action has been taken against a staff of the state transport corporation for the first time since the launch of the ATC-like system C4 (Central Control Command Centre).
Padam Singh, a contractual driver of the Agra region, was charged for over-speeding and tampering with the vehicle tracking system installed in the bus, used to monitor the speed, performance and movement of the bus.

Speaking to TOI, Ravinder Singh, service manager of the Agra region for UPSRTC said, “Our newly set up monitoring system C4 in Lucknow caught the bus (no. UP 85 AT 0911) violating the speed limit 13 times while traveling from Agra to Delhi.”
“Strict instructions were given to all the drivers across the state to not cross the speed limit of 70 kmph for unnecessary reasons or they might face a heavy penalty, even termination from their jobs. The Delhi-bound bus driven by Padam Singh was continuously running above 80 kmph, putting scores of passengers’ lives at risk. Therefore his contract has been terminated,” Singh said.

The service manager added that in the C4 system, exceptions can be made for taking over a slow vehicle on a fast lane or speeding to a hospital in an emergency situation, but continuous driving at high speed would not be tolerated.
Launched on July 1, the system monitors 9,600 buses of UPSRTC which operate on 2,405 routes, ferrying 1.3 million commuters daily among 323 bus stations.
