AGARTALA: The Tripura government on Sunday made Covid testing must for all the incoming passengers through air, rail and road to arrest the sudden surge of coronavirus infection in the state in a week.
It also imposed night curfew across Tripura from Monday between 9 pm and 5 am till January 20, said government spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury.
All educational institutions have also been closed till January 20 except for those where exams are going on.
The state has registered over 450 positive patients so far with the report of three deaths in a week due to Covid. However, most of the infected patients have mild symptoms and are in home isolation.
Although the figure and the intensity of infection were reportedly low, the state government became worried over the spread of infection even among the people with two doses of vaccine and children. The administration has launched a drive against non-use and improper wearing of mask and violation of mandated distance in the public places.
The state implemented a fresh order from Sunday to prevent further spread of infection, which said, "All domestic incoming passengers through MBB Airport, railway station and checkposts along Assam and
Mizoram will have to undergo Covi test at the entry points irrespective of negative test report or final Covid vaccination certificate."
Moreover, the civil administration has been asked to launch cluster-wise enforcement with police against flouting face cover mask norms and crowding. All political gatherings have been banned until further orders. Besides, officers have been authorised to book the violators under the Disaster Management Act.
Movement of public transport, including trains and buses with crowds has been banned in the state .
The state has reduced the strength in all government offices to 50%, while training in all departments except fire service and health will be restricted. The West Tripura district issued a notification mentioning the list of vaccination centres for booster dose for health and frontline workers and 60-plus people with comorbidity.
