About the Movie

Although ‘To all the boys: P.S. I still love you’ has all the ingredients of a teenage romantic triangle, it falls short on creating the same romance beats that its prequel had.

To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You Movie Review: A cute teenage rom-com

Story: Lara Jean and Peter Kravinsky who begin dating at the end of the prequel to this film, experience their share of relationship woes as there is a new entrant in the mix, to ruffle their romance. Review: When Netflix original ‘To all the boys: P.S. I love you’ released in 2018, it injected a new lease of life into the teenage romantic comedy genre. Cute and delightful, the film soon garnered its own fan following. Lara Jean and her letters to all the boys she had loved had a refreshing ring to it. Add to that, Noah Centineo, legit teen heartthrob, as Peter Kraivnsky sealed it with a kiss for this film. Naturally then, its 2020 sequel came riding high on expectations. Even though she’s completely kicked to dating Peter, the star footballer in school, Lara Jean (Lana Condor) has a few issues she needs to figure out on her own. One of them being how to be a girlfriend for the first time and while she is doing that, she also has her share of jealousy pangs whenever Peter’s ex-girlfriend, Gen (Emilija Baranc) pops up in the scene. And even she doesn’t, Lara Jean often finds herself thinking if she is a good enough girlfriend. And while Peter and Lara are trying to work out their dating protocols given their very different personalities, an unexpected third comes into the scene. Turns out, another one of Lara’s letters reached its rightful recipient, John Ambrose (Jordon Fisher) and he seems to be very interested in dating her. Especially since he has had a little something for her since they were 11. What’s more, looks like John definitely has more in common with Lara Jean since they both end up volunteering at the same retirement home. And while Lara Jean tries to make up her muddled mind between Peter and John, Peter doesn’t make things any easier by making a few bumbling mistakes himself, in true jock style. And John on the other hand comes across as charming, sensitive and sensible. Although ‘To all the boys: P.S. I still love you’ has all the ingredients of a teenage romantic triangle, it falls short on creating the same romance beats that its prequel had. In short, it’s not as exciting and fresh. There isn’t enough time given to the lead characters to soak in their romance, before their problems – internal and otherwise start cropping up. Although, the three lead actors impress - Lana Condor is spot on once again as the shy and sweet Lara Jean. Noah Centineo is charming all the way as Peter Kravinsky and Jordon Fisher holds his own well. There are other tracks that play out nicely too, like Lara’s dad, Dr.Covey’s (John Corbett) new found love interest. And Lara’s dynamics with Gen. On the whole, the film does have its nice, warm and fun moments and the lead actors share a good chemistry. And ultimately a fairy tale ending sees it through!
