About the Movie

This horror fest also marks the beginning of this franchise aimed at the millennials but what comes out, in the end, is a sloppy product that simply fails to excite you and evoke any interest.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre Movie Review: This reboot aimed at millennials is dull and bland

STORY: Leatherface returns after hiding for more than fifty years and this time he terrorizes a group of friends who accidentally tread into his world. When Dante and Melody travel to Harlow, Texas for a business venture, little do they know that the path ahead is filled with gore. REVIEW: The popularity of the ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ series of films can be gauged from the fact that this is the ninth in the series since the time we were introduced to the first one in 1974. But popularity apart, the recent ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ is an assault on senses and even an 80-minute film after a point of time becomes unbearable. There is absolutely nothing in the film that you have not seen before. The film follows all the tropes that American slasher films are infamous for. The logic goes for a long hike and horror is depicted in form of gory murders with the aid of a chainsaw which needless to say are cringeworthily. The film is about a group of friends who travel to Harlow, a Texan ghost town for a business venture. Once they reach the venue and enter their property, which they soon plan to renovate, they discover to their horror that it has been occupied by an old lady. The trauma of leaving her home at such an age is too much for the old lady and dies soon because of a heart attack. It's then her son, also Leatherface decides to take his revenge and go on a rampage which is filled with gore and murder. The only redeeming sequence of the film which accidentally becomes a comic sequence is the scene when Leatherface enters a bus full of potential investors. It's a scene that also reminisces of the time we are currently living in. The investors point their camera phone to Leatherface the moment he takes out his chainsaw. It must be noted here that the original ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ was not gory by any stretch of the imagination. It’s a pity that the definition of horror has completely changed for filmmakers over the years and now it has been replaced by a blood fest. This horror fest also marks the beginning of this franchise aimed at the millennials but what comes out, in the end, is a sloppy product that simply fails to excite you and evoke any interest. A better way to tide over this trauma would be to watch the original 74 flick directed by Tobe Hooper. Watch this film at your own peril.
