'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms': Everything to know about the new Westeros spin-off

Westeros returns to our screens with a fresh perspective in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Based on George R.R. Martin’s novellas, the series shifts focus from massive wars to a more personal journey. It follows a wandering knight and his young squire as they travel across a vibrant landscape, offering fans a more intimate look at the Seven Kingdoms.

2/9

Peter Claffey

Peter Claffey plays Dunk, a humble man with a massive frame. He begins as an obscure hedge knight seeking glory at the Ashford tourney. Dunk possesses a strong moral compass and immense physical strength and eventually becomes a legendary figure in Westerosi history. His journey truly begins when he meets a stubborn young boy who changes his life forever. Dunk embodies the essence of true chivalry.

3/9

Dexter Sol Ansell

Dexter Sol Ansell portrays Egg, a bald ten-year-old with a sharp wit. He meets Dunk at a roadside inn and insists on serving as his squire. Behind his simple clothes lies a major secret tied to the royal Targaryen line. Egg provides the brains to match Dunk’s brawn, and together they form one of the most unlikely duos in the Seven Kingdoms.

4/9

Daniel Ings

Daniel Ings brings the charismatic Lyonel Baratheon to life. Known as the “Laughing Storm,” he dominates the tourney grounds with equal parts joy and skill. He quickly strikes up a friendship with Dunk and proves his loyalty by fighting alongside the hedge knight during a dangerous trial. His boisterous personality makes him a standout figure and a true representative of House Baratheon’s strength and honour.

5/9

Finn Bennett

Finn Bennett plays the cruel and vain Prince Aerion Targaryen. He serves as the primary antagonist at the Ashford tourney. Viewing himself as a literal dragon, Aerion treats commoners with complete contempt. His violent outburst against a puppeteer sparks a major conflict with Dunk, highlighting the dangerous instability within the royal family tree.

6/9

Sam Spruell

Sam Spruell embodies the stern and formidable Prince Maekar. A harsh father, he struggles to control his rebellious sons. Maekar’s search for his children leads him straight into the heart of the Ashford conflict, where he eventually faces his own brother in a brutal trial. His character underscores the tension, responsibility and duty that define life within the royal household.

7/9

Shaun Thomas

Shaun Thomas portrays Raymun Fossoway, a squire with a heart of gold. Unlike his treacherous cousin, Raymun values honour and true friendship. He supports Dunk when the knight is left with very few allies. In the heat of the tourney, Raymun proves that bravery does not require a title and remains one of Dunk’s most trusted companions.

8/9

Bertie Carvel

Bertie Carvel plays Prince Baelor, the noble heir to the Iron Throne. He stands out as a fair and just leader in a world filled with schemers. Baelor helps Dunk gain entry into the tournament against all odds and even risks his own life to defend the knight’s honour during the Trial of Seven. His integrity represents the Targaryens at their finest.

9/9

Danny Webb

Danny Webb appears as Ser Arlan, the man who raised Dunk. Though he dies before the main story begins, his lessons continue to guide the young knight. An ageing hedge knight, Arlan taught Dunk the fundamentals of combat and chivalry. He appears in crucial flashbacks that shed light on Dunk’s origins, and his legacy lives on through his protégé’s actions.
