The NDRF team's efforts were nothing short of remarkable, as they labored ceaselessly for over six hours to ensure the safety of those trapped. The culmination of their tireless work came around 3 am on Monday, when the trapped individuals were finally brought to safety.The genesis of this incident traces back to a forest team's mission to assess the impact of flooding on the reservoir. Accompanied by local residents, the team embarked on this task, only for the situation to take an unforeseen turn. A malfunctioning motorboat led to their entrapment in the reservoir on the evening of August 20. The boat's struggles to navigate were compounded by a sea of debris - a result of logs and branches from the forest that had been swept into the reservoir by the deluge of waters from the feeding river and rivulets.The Kol Dam, a monumental 800 MW hydroelectric project commissioned by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on the banks of the Satluj River, forms a vital nexus between the Mandi and Bilaspur districts of Himachal Pradesh. As nature's forces continue to test the region, the toll of these challenges has manifested in a sobering way. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) underscores a grim reality - 341 lives lost and 327 injuries sustained due to a medley of rain-related incidents, spanning flash floods and landslides, since June 24. Himachal Pradesh, gripped by the throes of a monsoon beset by adversities, has witnessed an astonishing 115 landslides and 60 flash floods since the monsoon's advent in late June.
